A custom engagement ring starts with an idea: a photo you saved, a sketch on a napkin, a ring your grandmother wore. We turn it into a ring that fits your hand and your budget, built around a lab grown diamond you choose in person at our showroom on West 47th Street.
When custom makes sense
Most people find their ring among our lab grown diamond engagement rings. Custom is worth it when you want something the case does not have. A band a little thinner. A basket that sits lower. Two stones of different shapes. An engraving hidden inside. Or a setting that copies a ring you love, made to your size and stone.
How a custom ring is made
1. Sketch
We sit down together and talk about what you like and what you do not. Bring photos, screenshots, an old ring. We sketch the shape of the band, the height of the setting and how the stone is held. You leave with a clear plan and a price range.
2. 3D model
We turn the sketch into a 3D model on screen. You can turn it, look at it from the side, and see how high the stone sits. Changes are easy at this stage, so take your time.
3. Wax fitting
From the model we make a wax or resin copy of the ring. You try it on. It shows how the ring really feels on your finger, how wide the band looks, and how it sits next to a wedding band. Small changes happen here, before any metal is cast.
4. Your finished ring
The ring is cast in the metal you chose, set with your lab diamond, polished and checked. We go over it with you under the loupe before you take it home.
Choosing the diamond
The center stone is chosen in person. Tell us the shape, carat range and budget, and we pull three to five loose lab grown diamonds for you to compare. Each comes with an IGI or GIA report. You can choose the stone first and design around it, or design first and find the stone to fit.
Bringing a family stone
Many custom rings use a stone with a story. If you bring a family diamond, we check it under the loupe, measure it and tell you honestly how it will look in the new design. We can mix it with new lab diamonds, for example as side stones in a three stone ring. We also look at whether the old stone is strong enough to reset safely.
How long it takes
A custom ring usually takes a few weeks from the first sketch to the finished ring. The exact time depends on the design and on how many changes you make. We give you a date at the first visit, so you can plan a proposal around it.
What a custom ring costs
Price depends on the metal, the amount of detail and, most of all, the center stone. Our ready made engagement rings are priced from $1,290 with a lab diamond, and a custom design is priced before we begin, so there are no surprises. Read our price guide for what moves the number.
