Lab grown diamond prices have fallen a long way, and they still move. This guide explains what sets the price of a lab grown diamond, what 1, 2 and 3 carat stones tend to cost as a rough guide, and where our own pieces start. The exact number always depends on the stone you choose.

What moves a lab grown diamond price
- Carat. Weight has the biggest effect. Prices jump at round numbers like 1.00, 1.50 and 2.00 carats, because more people look for them. A 1.90 carat stone can cost noticeably less than a 2.00 and look almost the same.
- Cut. A well cut stone returns more light and looks larger from the top. An excellent or ideal cut costs a little more and is usually worth it.
- Color. D, E and F are the whitest grades. G and H look white once set, especially in white gold or platinum, and cost less.
- Clarity. VVS and VS stones look clean to the eye. Many SI1 stones do too, at a lower price, but you need to see them to be sure.
- Shape. Rounds usually cost the most per carat because more rough is lost when they are cut. Ovals, pears, emeralds and radiants often cost less for the same weight.
- Report. A stone graded by IGI or GIA carries paperwork you can check. Stones with the same grades from different labs can be priced differently.
- Metal and setting. Platinum costs more than gold, and 18k more than 14k. A halo, a pave band or a custom design adds labor and small stones.
1 carat lab grown diamond price
A 1 carat lab grown diamond is now one of the most affordable sizes in the market. As a rough guide, a well cut 1 carat stone with a report often sells for a few hundred dollars to around a thousand, loose, depending on grades and shape. Our solitaire engagement rings are priced from $1,290 with a lab diamond.
2 carat lab grown diamond price
At 2 carats, the gap with mined diamonds is at its widest. A good 2 carat lab diamond often costs well under what many people expect, frequently in the high hundreds to low thousands of dollars, loose. Cut and color matter more here, because a larger stone shows its tint and its light return more clearly.
3 carat lab grown diamond price
A 3 carat lab diamond is a size many couples now consider for the first time. As a rough guide, prices often run from the low thousands upward, with fine colors, top cuts and elongated shapes at the higher end. At this size, we strongly suggest seeing several stones side by side, because small differences in cut become very visible.
Price per carat
Price per carat is the total price divided by the weight. It helps you compare stones of different sizes. It rises as stones get bigger, because large rough is rarer. So a 2 carat stone usually costs more than twice a 1 carat stone of the same grades. Use price per carat to compare, but choose with your eyes.
Getting the most for your budget
Give us a budget and a range rather than one exact spec. We pull loose lab grown diamonds just under the round weights, in colors that look white once set, and show you where the money makes a visible difference. Read the 4Cs guide first if the grades are new to you, then book a viewing.
