Book a viewingA radiant cut engagement ring has the clean, cropped corners of an emerald cut and the sparkle of a brilliant. It is the shape for people who want a rectangle or square that still flashes like crushed ice. Radiant cut rings are priced from $2,790, each with a lab grown diamond and its IGI or GIA report.
What a radiant looks like in person
The radiant is cut with brilliant facets all the way through, so its light is busy and bright rather than calm like an emerald cut. Under the showroom lights it sparkles hard. By the window in daylight it shows a softer glow. Both are worth seeing, and we will show you both.
The trimmed corners make the shape practical. With no sharp points, a radiant is easier to wear every day than a princess cut, and it fits well next to almost any wedding band.
Square or elongated
Radiants come in two moods. As a rough guide:
- About 1.00 to 1.10: a square radiant, bold and compact.
- About 1.20 to 1.35: a gentle rectangle, the look most people ask for.
- About 1.35 and up: long and slim, it stretches the finger.
Radiants carry a fair amount of depth, so they can look smaller face up than an oval of the same weight. Ask us to show you the millimeter size next to the carat weight. That number tells you more about how big it will look than carats alone.
Settings and pairings
A four prong solitaire keeps the outline sharp. A radiant also looks striking set inside a hidden halo, which adds sparkle from the side. With trapezoid or baguette side stones it becomes a classic three stone ring.
Still deciding on the outline? Look at an emerald cut and a cushion cut on the same visit. The three shapes sit close together, and seeing them on your own hand makes the choice easy.
Color, clarity and the report
Radiants hide inclusions well, so VS2 or a clean SI1 often looks clean to the eye. Color can show slightly at the corners, so many people pick G or H in white gold or platinum. Every stone has an IGI or GIA report; our IGI report guide shows how to read one.
Tell us your ratio and budget on the stone request page. We pull three to five radiants for the tray, and you can book a viewing at 30 West 47th Street to compare them.
Asked at the showroom
What is the difference between a radiant and an emerald cut?
They share a similar outline with cropped corners. An emerald cut has long step facets and a calm, glassy look. A radiant has brilliant facets and much more sparkle. Seeing both side by side usually makes the choice clear.
Should I choose a square or elongated radiant?
It depends on the look you like. As a rough guide, about 1.00 to 1.10 reads square and 1.20 to 1.35 reads as a gentle rectangle. Longer stones stretch the finger.
Do radiant cuts look small for their weight?
They can carry extra depth, so ask for the millimeter size, not only the carat weight. We list it for every stone we pull for your visit.
