A toi et moi ring sets two stones side by side, “you and me” in French. It is one of the most personal engagement ring styles, and with lab grown diamonds you can make both stones a good size. Toi et moi rings are priced from $2,390, with an IGI or GIA report for each center stone.

What a toi et moi ring is

The two stones usually sit at a slight angle, touching or nearly touching, on a bypass or straight band. They can match or differ. Pairing two shapes is part of the fun: each stone can stand for one person, or you can simply choose the two shapes you could not decide between.

In person, toi et moi rings look larger and more playful than a single stone of the same total weight. They also catch light from two directions, which makes them lively on the hand.

Pairs that work well

  • Pear and oval: the most asked for pairing, soft and balanced.
  • Pear and pear: two drops set nose to tail, simple and striking.
  • Emerald and pear: a clean step cut next to a brilliant, a nice contrast.
  • Round and marquise: classic sparkle with a long, slim partner.

Size balance matters. Two stones of the same weight look even and modern. A larger and a smaller stone look more like a lead and a companion. We can lay different pairs on the tray so you can see the balance before anything is set. Browse pear, oval and emerald cut rings for shape ideas.

Settings and wear

Toi et moi rings sit a little wider on the finger than a solitaire. A low setting helps them wear comfortably. Pointed stones such as pears and marquises need V prongs or bezels at their tips. Wedding bands can be curved or notched to sit flush against the pair; we show you both options at the showroom.

Many toi et moi rings start as a custom ring, because the pairing is so personal. Bring a photo or a sketch and we will draw it with you.

Choosing two stones

Match color between the two stones so neither looks warmer. Clarity can differ a little, since each stone is seen on its own. Our IGI report guide explains what to compare.

Send both shapes and sizes through the stone request page. We will pull matching options for each, and you can book a viewing on 47th Street to try the pairs together.

Questions

Asked at the showroom

What does toi et moi mean?

It is French for you and me. The style sets two stones next to each other, often at a slight angle, so each stone can stand for one person.

Which two shapes look best together?

Pear and oval is the most asked for pairing. Two pears, emerald with pear, and round with marquise also look lovely. We can lay different pairs on the tray before anything is set.

Do the two stones need to match?

Match the color so neither looks warmer. Size can be equal for a modern look, or one larger and one smaller for a lead and companion look. Clarity can differ a little.
